Yale Researchers Look to Bacteria for Network Inspiration

Researchers at Yale are looking into the computational organization of the bacterium E Coli to see why thinking systems in nature dont crash like thinking systems designed my man. Very interesting findings from century-hightech

The researchers compared the architecture of the two varying methods and what they concluded is represented in the graphic above. While both E Coli and the Linux operating system arrange their networks in hierarchies, in E coli the molecular networks are arranged in a pyramid (wherein a limited number of master genes sit at the top, controlling a wide range of functions beneath). On the contrary, Linux uses an inverted scheme wherein various routines sit at the top controlling a few generic functions below. Wired Science also did an extensive treatment of the issue here.
