Faulder's Biophyte Building in Tehran

Byophyte

Faulder’s Studio has a design proposal that hosts a facade built to host the growth of moss. Similar to our previous Geotube post on Faulder’s work in Dubai, the building aims to have a “life of its own” and develop its own character over time.

The program is a mixed use commercial development that takes advantage of the supposed high levels of airborne spores in Tehran’s air that would soon populate the facade and make it progressively greener and greener over time. Proposed on Valiasr Street that is often shaded from the sun due to sky-high trees densely bordering both sides of the boulevard, the Byophyte Building is continually shaded and could become fertile ground for the propagation of a moss building envelope.

A recycling water system maintains the dampness required for the airborne spores to cling and propagate on the building. More images below as well as a site map giving some context of Tehran’s dense urban condition.
